Marta Rica is a trainee in the Water Observatory - Botín Foundation, carrying out PhD work at the Complutense University of Madrid. She graduated in 2008 in Environmental Science from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She completed her Master´s Degree in Water Resource Management at the University of Wageningen, the Netherlands, in June 2010. Under the Observatory´s framework, she is carrying out studies on the development of groundwater governance in Spain, focusing on the analysis of institutions for the collective management of the resource at various levels. Recently (2012-2014) she lived in Bolivia where she collaborated on a research about self-management capacities of collective water supplies in periurban Cochabamba, and worked with the German cooperation evaluating a project of rainwater harvesting as a way to mitigate climate change in rural areas of Bolivia. She has also worked in the in the field of drinking water management in rural areas and sector reforms in Bolivia.
